Van't Schip set for Ajax role

AJAX appear to have moved swiftly to replace the departing Gerard van der Lem, with John van`t Schip offered the chance to become reserve-team coach.

Van der Lem will take up the role of technical director with the Saudi Arabian FA next year, and Ajax coach Ronald Koeman feels van`t Ship has the right credentials to fill the void.

Former Ajax winger van`t Schip (pictured during his playing days) has forged a solid reputation as a coach in a relatively short space of time.

He stepped down from his role as coach of Twente in the summer, claiming they were not ambitious enough.

Dutch champions Ajax will certainly provide a substantial challenge, and working under Koeman with the quality players at the Amsterdam ArenA can only help van`t Schip develop.

In other news, Jari Litmanen was presented to the media on Monday evening and will wear the number 20 shirt for Ajax this term.
