Van Nistelrooy's Ajax ace plea

Ruud van Nistelrooy has compelled Manchester United to make a summer bid for his Holland team-mate Rafael van der Vaart.

The Ajax starlet is one of the most coveted talents in Europe and van Nistelrooy wants to link up with his compatriot at Old Trafford.

Van der Vaart is under contract at the Amsterdam ArenA until 2006 but can leave Ajax for the right price in the summer.

He has previously intimated that his dream is to play for Spanish giants Barcelona but he remains open regarding his next destination.

The 21-year-old schemer admits he will not make a decision on his future until the end of the season, with van Nistelrooy hoping he chooses The Red Devils.

Van Nistelrooy is a huge fan of his young international colleague and has urged United to secure his services in the summer.

The prolific striker feels van der Vaart could be the ideal player to supply him with the ammunition to continue banging in the goals on a regular basis.

"Van der Vaart is an outstanding player and I would love to see him in a Manchester United shirt," commented van Nistelrooy.

"He can operate just behind the attack and create chances."
