Gomaa makes Rovers claim

Wael Gomaa has claimed Blackburn have offered to sign him in January.

Egypt defender Wael Gomaa has claimed Blackburn have made an offer to sign him when the transfer window re-opens in January.

Gomaa underwent trials at Rovers and Newcastle this past week, with the Al Ahli stopper believed to be on the verge of securing a switch to The Premiership prior to Thursday's transfer deadline.

However, Gomaa insists he travelled to England with the intention of impressing potential employers ahead of a move in January, rather than clinching an immediate transfer.

And the imposing 31-year-old has revealed he impressed Rovers manager Mark Hughes sufficiently in training to have been given assurances about his future.

"I left Al Ahli with the intention only of moving in January. There is no way Al Ahli would let me leave now, but I have come to prove myself to the English clubs," Gomaa told EgyptianPlayers.com

"I have done everything I can. Blackburn have seen me and said good things about me, and have promised that they will take me in January."
