Ross County defender Sean Kelly has revealed he was handed the wrong medal after winning the Scottish Championship on Friday night.

County secured promotion back to the Scottish Premiership at the first attempt after beating Queen of the South 4-0 on Friday night.

There were euphoric scenes of jubilation at Dingwall as The Staggies' players and fans rejoiced their success.

But in an astonishing blunder, Kelly was presented with a League Two winners' medal and he shared a photo of his medal on Twitter on Saturday.

The SPFL have apologised for the error and have vowed to rectify the matter.

An SPFL spokesperson said: "Sean Kelly of Ross County was mistakenly given a Ladbrokes League 2 winners' medal yesterday evening.

"We apologise to Sean for the error and will ensure he receives the correct medal this week."

But it turns out the medal gaffe was not the only blunder made by Scottish football authorities this month.

Livingston goalkeeper Liam Kelly replied to the Ross County player's tweet with a photo of the Man of the Match champagne he received for his performance in the goalless draw with Celtic.

The wording on the bottle was fine but the label featured Aberdeen's club crest on it rather than Celtic's.
