Lambert looking to secure full-back on new deal

Colchester United manager Paul Lambert has confirmed the League One outfit are keen to extend Alan Maybury's stay. The former Republic of Ireland international joined The U's last December on a contract for the remainder of the season. However, the 30-year-old has impressed enough during his time at the club for Lambert to want the full-back beyond the summer. "He has done great for us," Lambert told the club's official website. "He has been consistent.

In talks

"We are talking to Alan and his agent to see what they think about him staying longer. "He has come in and done well for us and for himself, so everyone has won in this situation." Maybury is happy to commit his long-term future to the club, but insists there is no rush to sign fresh terms. "I would like to stay," he said. "We have spoken about next season a couple of times but not in any great detail as yet. "There is still plenty of time left this season and so there is no panic to get it sorted at the moment. "I am sure we will be sitting down soon."
