Ashley Young

With three goals and three assists in qualifying, he did as much as anyone to get England to Euro 2012. In Wayne Rooney's two-game suspension absence, the winger's trickery and pace will be vital tools.

Ashley Young has enjoyed an impressive debut season for Manchester United and will be hoping to cap that with a starring role for England at the European Championship. He has scored eight goals for the Red Devils since his big-money move from Aston Villa last summer, but his form with the national team has been even more eye-catching. Since netting his first international goal in February of last year - the winner in Denmark - Young has saved his best performances for his country. The 26-year-old came off the bench to equalise versus Swizerland, before grabbing the only goal of the game against Wales at Wembley. Further strikes have followed against Montenegro and Holland to confirm Young as a certain starter at Euro 2012. Perhaps the key to his ongoing success could be the important partnerships Young is able to build on the field. The former Watford man has a good relationship with England forwards Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck, who are both team-mates at Old Trafford. He will also be complemented by Theo Walcott stretching the play on the other flank, while his desire to cut inside may favour Ashley Cole's ability to overlap on the left. With his superb set-piece delivery, Young is also expected to be responsible for finding the likes of John Terry and Andy Carroll in the air. Any final tricks up his sleeve? Young has had his critics this season, with fans of rival clubs unimpressed by his habit of going to ground under little provocation. But expect the country to be welcoming the winger's simulation skills should he manage to outfox France right-back Mathieu Debuchy in England's opening game on June 11th.
