Paul Merson's latest round of predictions sees him back Man City to do what Chelsea couldn't and win at Sunderland, plus the Blues to take victory over Tottenham.
Arsenal v Southampton
Southampton have done really well so far - they’ve not let in many goals, they’ve won matches - but they haven’t played any of the really big boys until now. Manchester City beat them quite comfortably, and I think Arsenal will do the same. They’ve tightened up at the back and look decent at the moment.
PAUL PREDICTS: 3-0 (Sky Bet odds 14/1)
Chelsea v Tottenham
Sunday was the best I’ve seen Spurs play under Mauricio Pochettino. They played with a lot more tempo and created more chances. Diego Costa is obviously missing - Sunderland were very organised and they all knew how to do their jobs, but I don’t think Tottenham can do that. Chelsea should win fairly comfortably because I don’t see how they’ll be able to defend against them for 90 minutes.
PAUL PREDICTS: 2-0 (Sky Bet odds 5/1)
Everton v Hull
I was shocked on Sunday. When Everton went one up with that worldy by Kevin Mirallas, I thought they’d go on and win. I worry for Hull at the moment - I didn’t at the start of the season, but watching them the other day they were terrible. They’re fourth from bottom and I don’t see them getting anything from this, while I reckon Everton will win and get back on another roll.
PAUL PREDICTS: 3-0 (Sky Bet odds 10/1)
Sunderland v Man City
People will say Sunderland have to win their games at home, but they just have to make sure they can nick points against the big boys - they did that last time out. Defensively, that was as good as it gets. They’ll have to do it again against Man City but I think they’ll have too much for them - John O’Shea and Wes Brown liked playing against Diego Costa, but Sergio Aguero is miles too sharp and lively for them.
PAUL PREDICTS: 0-2 (Sky Bet odds 13/2)
Burnley v Newcastle
I thought Newcastle were unlucky at West Ham on Saturday. Tiss was watching it in the Soccer Saturday studio and I was keeping an eye on it, and I thought they were unlucky to come away with nothing. Burnley not beating Villa wasn’t a great result for them - you need to be winning those games at home. So I’m going for a Newcastle win.
PAUL PREDICTS: 0-2 (Sky Bet odds 11/1)
Leicester v Liverpool
Liverpool haven’t been great – they’ve been on a bit of a bad run recently. I thought they were quite lucky against Stoke because they didn’t do too much, especially in the first half. With Leicester, when you have that many efforts you need to be scoring goals, but I reckon they’ll get a draw against Liverpool.
PAUL PREDICTS: 2-2 (Sky Bet odds 12/1)
Man Utd v Stoke
I thought Stoke were unlucky at Liverpool - they looked solid but conceded that late goal which cost them the game. Manchester United, though, were really good on Saturday. They completely ripped Hull to shreds at Old Trafford, and I reckon they’ll carry that form on with another easy win in this one.
PAUL PREDICTS: 3-1 (Sky Bet odds 11/1)
Swansea v QPR
I watched Swansea on Saturday and the game changed when Dwight Gayle got injured and had to go off. Palace had to change their shape and the way they played and that ended up working. Swansea should win this one very easily, though - QPR had to put a lot into their game against Leicester and they’re also not the best away from home.
PAUL PREDICTS: 3-0 (Sky Bet odds 12/1)
Crystal Palace v Villa
I thought it was a good result for Villa on Saturday - it was important they didn’t go to Burnley and lose. People will think they should be winning games like that, but when they’re on a run like they are they just needed to not lose. I think they’ll manage to avoid defeat again and grab a draw at Palace.
PAUL PREDICTS: 1-1 (Sky Bet odds 9/2)
West Brom v West Ham
I thought West Ham played well at Everton and lost, then they weren’t so good on Saturday but they won, which is a good tonic sometimes, not playing well and winning. West Brom have gone, for me. They’re really struggling and need to win a game very quickly, but I’m for West Ham to take the win here.
PAUL PREDICTS: 0-2 (Sky Bet odds 12/1)
