Walsall claimed a valuable three points with a 2-0 victory at Northampton in League One.

Hutchings' men earn the points with late double

Walsall claimed a valuable three points after late goals from Stephen Hughes and substitute Jabo Ibehre guided the Saddlers to a 2-0 victory at Northampton. The hosts had wasted several good chances to take the lead with Andrew Holt heading wide with the goal at his mercy. Billy Clarke saw a near-post header saved by Walsall goalkeeper Clayton Ince while Adebayo Akinfenwa's rebound was blocked on the line. Giles Coke went close for the Cobblers shortly after the restart but Ince tipped his shot around a post. But Northampton paid the price as Chris Hutchings' Walsall grabbed two goals in the final seven minutes. Hughes opened the scoring after 83 minutes when he raced onto a defence-splitting pass from Michael Ricketts to beat debutant goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler. Ibehre doubled the Saddlers' advantage in stoppage time as he burst through to beat the advancing youngster.
