Magpies welcome Valiants to Meadow Lane

Notts County begin life after Sol Campbell at home to Port Vale and new signing Daniel Jones is in line to make his debut. The Magpies have signed the Wolves midfielder on loan until January with a view to joining the League Two club on a permanent basis. Jones, who has made eight first-team appearances for Wolves since coming through Wanderers' youth ranks, has had loan spells at Northampton and Oldham in the previous two seasons. Jones could be thrown straight into action against Vale with Stephen Hunt (groin) out and Jamie Clapham (hamstring) a doubt.

Vale news

Micky Adams has a number of selection dilemmas ahead of Port Vale's trip to Meadow Lane. The Valiants boss introduced defender Sam Stockley, midfielder Anthony Griffith and loan striker Lewis Haldane for Tuesday night's Carling Cup defeat at the hands of Scunthorpe and all three players impressed. That leaves Adams pondering whether to recall any or all of rested trio Adam Yates, Rob Taylor and Louis Dodds. Goalkeeper Joe Anyon made his first start in midweek for the reserves since breaking his leg back in March and it remains to be seen whether he will win a place on Vale's bench. Jamie Lawrie also returned from his appendix operation in the 1-1 draw against Shrewsbury, while transfer-listed Ross Davidson started the encounter having been on loan at Stafford Rangers and could be in contention. Assistant player/manager Geoff Horsfield remains sidelined for another couple of weeks with a groin strain.
