Newly-promoted pair Paderborn and Cologne extended their unbeaten starts to the campaign with a goalless draw on Saturday.

The two teams had both won one and drawn one of their opening two Bundesliga fixtures and were happy not to lose that proud unbeaten record at the Paderborn Arena.

The hosts had the better chances, but Cologne kept a clean sheet for the third game in a row to pick up another point towards survival.

Elias Kachunga was Paderborn's most dangerous player once again, and he went close to opening the scoring in the 10th minute with a shot into the side-netting.

Moritz Stoppelkamp was denied twice by Timo Horn, who continued his excellent season so far, providing the solid foundation upon which this Cologne side is built.

He once again denied Kachunga, whose volley did not catch the last line of the Cologne defence napping.

Stoppelkamp missed the target with Paderborn's next effort and it became increasingly clear there was not going to be a goal between the two promoted sides.

As the game wore on, the chances were even fewer and a goalless draw looked increasingly likely.

That did not change even when both coaches sent on some fresh legs, although whether the legs of Cologne's Yuya Osako were really fresh after his 12-hour flight back from Japan on Thursday remained to be seen.

He was unable to lift Cologne, who were happy with their third clean sheet and fifth point of the season.
