Burton wing-back Jack Armer scored a second-half winner as Plymouth missed the chance to move top of League One after a 1-0 loss at Home Park.
Armer was first to the loose ball after Argyle goalkeeper Murphy Cooper made a brilliant save to keep out Caylan Vickers' strike with 20 minutes remaining.
Substitute Caleb Watts' header was superbly flapped over the bar by Burton keeper Corey Addai two minutes later as Argyle pressed for a leveller.

In-form Argyle striker Bim Pepple, with four goals in four games, headed just wide at the far post after Ronan Curtis' superb cross from the right eluded full-stretch Addai on 13 minutes.
Armer missed a golden opportunity to put Albion one up in the 20th minute as he fired high from 10 yards after latching on to a pinpoint cross from the right.
Albion midfielder Charlie Webster then bounced the ball off the top of the bar with an audacious first-time 48th-minute shot after Argyle failed to clear his corner.
Cooper made a great diving save to punch away Burton skipper George Evans' thumping 61st-minute free-kick from 20 yards while Plymouth sub Xavier Amaechi looked set to level on 79 minutes but fired over when through one-on-one.
