Tom Cleverley’s resurgent Plymouth kept their slim Sky Bet League One play-off chances alive as Bim Pepple’s double gave them a 2-1 home win over relegated Port Vale, after they had been reduced to 10 men early on.
Argyle had a dream start when top scorer Lorent Tolaj put strike partner Bim Pepple in on goal and he scored with a clinical third-minute finish.
Argyle's joy was short-lived as keeper Conor Hazard saw red soon after for handballing the ball outside his area to deny Vale striker Martin Sherif.

Vale levelled when Connor Hall met Jordan Shipley's cross from the left with a thumping far-post 14th-minute header.
Argyle regained the lead in the 47th minute thanks to a superb left-foot strike from Pepple from outside the area, which beat full-stretch Joe Gauci and flew in off a post.
Tolaj sent a spectacular overhead kick just wide of goal in the 25th minute as 10-man Argyle sought to retake the lead.
Shipley's shot was saved by Luca Ashby-Hammond in the 30th minute and then recycled to former Argyle striker Ben Waine, whose shot needed to be tipped around post by the replacement keeper.
Former Vale striker Tolaj headed just wide in the 55th minute and then had a deflected shot spin just past the post on 57 minutes as the visitors pressed for an equaliser without success.
