Aldershot were fortunate to take a point after being outplayed for most of a 0-0 draw at Port Vale.

Hosts fail to make chances count

Aldershot have now gone five games without a win and were fortunate to take a point after being outplayed for most of a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Port Vale. Vale were the better side in a largely uneventful first half when Aldershot goalkeeper Nikki Bull kept his side on level terms. Bull made two terrific saves from Louis Dodds, the first low down and the second high to his left as he pawed the ball for a corner just before the interval. Aldershot's biggest problem was their dreadful passing, but they improved after the interval as Danny Hylton fired one effort too close to Vale keeper Chris Martin and headed another over the top. Vale hit back with Rob Taylor having a shot blocked by Lewis Chalmers and Paul Marshall driving the rebound against the top of the crossbar. And Dodds almost won it for Vale eight minutes from time when his header from Paul Edwards' cross flashed inches wide of Bull's left-hand post. Aldershot's best opportunity came in stoppage time when Jake Robinson's fierce shot was well saved by Martin.
