Grimsby withstood belated Port Vale pressure in their 0-0 draw to earn a FA Cup first-round replay at Blundell Park a week on Tuesday.

Emmanuel Panther, on loan from Aldershot, should have scored with his first kick for the visitors when his close range shot from Craig Disley's cross was kicked off the line by Rob Taylor after just 30 seconds. And Grimsby threatened again when Stuart Tomlinson was forced into a full length dive to beat out a 25-yard free-kick from Michael Coulson. Vale were again completely out of sorts on home soil and Grimsby goalkeeper James McKeown did not have a save to make during the whole of a low quality first-half. Louis Dodds finally drew some applause from the home fans when his 25-yard volley veered narrowly wide seven minutes into the second period. But Dodds sliced a shot into the visiting fans five minutes later after McKeown had fumbled Vale's first effort on target. The contest was at least warming up and Vale were finally starting to ask some questions of an under-worked Grimsby rearguard. Dodds, substitute Sam Morsy and Yates all squandered late chances to avoid a replay but Grimsby held on.
