Josh Windass will return to the Rangers squad for their Scottish Premiership clash with Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Christmas Eve.

The 22-year-old has missed the last month with hamstring trouble but is set to return to Mark Warburton's squad and could make his comeback at Ibrox.

Matt Crooks has shaken off a hamstring strain of his own but Jordan Rossiter (calf) and Niko Kranjcar (knee) remain on the sidelines.

Rangers fans tried to push the 60s hit 'Glad All Over' for Christmas number one after adopting it for striker Joe Garner

Striker Joe Garner has found himself inadvertently embroiled in a battle for the Christmas No 1 spot but Rangers manager Mark Warburton has been delighted with his efforts on the pitch in recent weeks.

Garner has netted just three times since making his £1.8m switch from Preston in August and was the subject of some criticism after his early performances for the club but the Rangers support have taken to his committed style and Warburton says that will only help the 28-year-old improve.

"It's fantastic. You heard the singing and backing at Hamilton and the ovation he received at Ibrox at the end of the Hearts game," Warburton said. "You know, three or four weeks ago there were some derogatory comments about Joe but there has never been any doubt about his quality.

"It's all credit to him the way he has adapted to our style of play and the demands of playing at a club like Rangers. All credit to his team-mates for working Joe's strengths and playing towards it. I'm delighted for Joe. He's settling in, he's enjoying his time at Rangers I'm sure and I think he'll get better and better.

"Of course something like this will help his confidence. As a number nine you can be judged solely on your goal record but if you look at the other night, he didn't score yet got an ovation of that nature.

"You'd have thought he'd scored five - that tells you the crowd respect the fact that his work-rate is first class, his application is first class, his desire to do well for the team is magnificent so that galvanises the crowd and it is great for the players."

Inverness goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams will again play through a back injury while second-choice Ryan Esson has started kicking the ball again after a groin problem.
