Rochdale were denied a fifth successive win as Michael Twiss scored a 91st-minute equaliser to earn Morecambe a 1-1 draw at Spotland.
Morecambe's defence had limited dominant Rochdale to just one clear-cut opportunity as Chris Dagnall raced clear before firing a shot which cannoned back off the post.
The opening goal came five minutes into the second half when Nicky Adams' cross was only cleared as far as Will Buckley who showed great composure as he stroked the ball into the far corner of Barry Roche's goal.
Roche somehow managed to keep the ball out in the 80th minute as he saved on the line when Adams picked out Lee Thorpe just three yards from goal, and he was called into action again minutes later when he parried Adams' shot to safety.
But when a last-minute corner was only partially cleared, the ball came back in and fell at the feet of Twiss who calmly turned it past Fielding.
