With neither the already-relegated Millers or their midtable visitors having much left to play for a draw always seemed the most likely outcome.

Rotherham took the lead after 25 minutes with a slick move finished off by Sam Nombe following Dan Gore's inch-perfect pass.

Ted Cann kept Rotherham ahead as he made a great diving stop to prevent Daniel Kyerewaa's low shot from creeping in.

Reading responded with the leveller after 47 minutes, with Kyerewaa tucking home from Paddy Lane's pass.

Kyerewaa was then denied a second as Zak Jules blocked his effort.

From there on, it was the home side who looked the more likely to grab the three points.

The woodwork halted their hopes of going back ahead when Emmanuel Adegboyega met Cohen Lee's cross powerfully.

Jack Holmes then came close with an effort from the edge of the box, which whistled just wide.
