Carlisle were left to rue a series of missed first-half chances as they slipped to their first defeat of the season as they lost 2-1 at Scunthorpe.
The Cumbrians were sunk by two goals in 12 second-half minutes as in-form Scunthorpe made it four wins on the trot.
A double substitution in the 58th minute did the trick for the Iron as they introduced wingers Matt Sparrow and Martyn Woolford.
The two combined to put Scunthorpe in front in the 61st minute when Woolford's left-wing cross was headed forcefully home by Sparrow.
Scunthorpe struck again in the 73rd minute when striker Paul Hayes provided the finishing touch after a long-range effort from Woolford.
Carlisle reduced the arrears in the 77th minute when striker Danny Carlton scrambled a shot home from close range, but it was too little too late.
