Highlights of the EFL Cup match between Scunthorpe and Notts County.

Kevin Van Veen struck twice in extra-time to squeeze Scunthorpe into round two of the EFL Cup with a 2-0 victory against Notts County.

The striker finally broke the deadlock in the 100th minute with his second goal in successive games, forcing the ball home from close range after the visitors failed to clear a free-kick knocked into their box.

Van Veen then struck again six minutes later with a measured left-foot shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.

Earlier it was midfield man Alex Rodman who twice went close to giving County a first-half lead.

First he forced a good save from goalkeeper Luke Daniels with a well-struck shot from the edge of the area, and just before the interval he flashed another good effort just inches wide of the far post.

In the second half, Daniels again rescued Graham Alexander's Scunthorpe after Matt Tootle broke free in the box for County.

Luke Williams looked the dangerman with a good effort in each half well kept out by County keeper Adam Collin.

Scunthorpe pressed strongly in the closing stages of the second half but Van Veen and substitute Josh Morris both squandered clear-cut chances.

Before a closely-fought game went into extra time, Tootle too missed another late chance for the visitors when he failed to find the target from just inside the box.
