Sheffield United host Preston on Monday with both sides looking to get back to winning ways as they aim to mount a play-off push. The Blades lost 2-1 at Leicester on Boxing Day, which halted a seven-match unbeaten run for Kevin Blackwell's side. Opponents Preston have won just one of their last nine matches to slip off the play-off pace. But Alan Irvine's side should at least be fresh for the trip after their Boxing Day clash with Barnsley fell victim to the weather. The Preston boss will be demanding an improved effort after his side's 3-0 reverse to Nottingham Forest the game before.

    Blades news

Sheffield United's teenage defender Kyle Walker could miss the clash through injury. Walker, 19, was forced out of the Boxing Day defeat at Leicester early in the second half and replaced by Derek Geary at right-back. If Walker fails to make it, Geary, equally at home on the right or left, is likely to retain his place. Manager Blackwell, without Lee Williamson (hamstring) and Darius Henderson (gluteal muscle) until the end of January, is unlikely to make many, if any, other changes. Andy Taylor is expected to continue at left-back following Toni Kallio's recall by Fulham, while striker Henri Camara will be hoping to force his way back into the starting line-up after scoring his second goal for the Blades on Boxing Day.
    North End news
Preston could hand a surprise recall to defender Sean St Ledger when they travel to Bramall Lane. St Ledger has returned to Deepdale after deciding against completing a permanent move to Championship rivals Middlesbrough, where he has spent the last three months on loan. He could be drafted straight back into Irvine's starting XI as North End look to turn around their recent poor form. The postponement of the Boxing Day clash with Barnsley ensures Ross Wallace remains suspended for Monday's game after he was booked for the fifth time this season in the defeat at Forest. Skipper Callum Davidson is hopeful of being fit despite limping off late on against Forest with cramp in his hamstring. But French centre-half Youl Mawene (knee ligaments) and midfielder Barry Nicholson (broken leg) remain sidelined until the New Year.
