Sheff Wed v Carlisle preview

Image: Lowe: In contention for Owls

Team news ahead of Saturday's League One clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Carlisle at Hillsborough.

Ryan Lowe and Keith Treacy will both return to contention. Striker Lowe missed last weekend's draw at Colchester due to a groin injury, while winger Treacy was sidelined through illness. Defender Daniel Jones, on the substitutes' bench at Colchester, and skipper Rob Jones, left out altogether for the last three games, could be recalled to the starting line-up as both Julian Bennett (knock) and Reda Johnson (thigh) are both out. Miguel Llera, who has scored in the last three matches, is expected to continue alongside Danny Batth in central defence. Gary Madine is expected to resume his partnership with on-loan Newcastle striker Nile Ranger against his former club, although Chris O'Grady is pushing for a recall. Manager Dave Jones has no other injury or suspension worries as the Owls bid to close the four-point gap on second-placed Sheffield United. Carlisle's teenage striker Mark Beck could be handed a bigger role after a late cameo role in midweek. The League One play-off chasing Cumbrians have failed to score in their last three matches since leading goalscorer Lee Miller was ruled out for the rest of the season with a groin injury, so manager Greg Abbott could give Beck more game time. The 18-year-old made his debut as an 81st-minute substitute in last week's home defeat to Charlton and appeared for the final two minutes at Stevenage. Experienced midfielder Paul Thirlwell is pushing for a place in Abbott's side after returning to the bench on Tuesday night. He has missed the last 11 matches due to a calf injury. Right-back Frank Simek will be lining up against his former club, but left-backs Chris Chantler (hamstring) and Matty Robson (back) remain sidelined. The Cumbrians are in eighth place, one point behind sixth-placed Notts County with three games remaining.
