There was late FA Cup heartache for Vanarama Premier side Grimsby as Abu Ogogo struck deep into stoppage-time to earn League One Shrewsbury a 1-0 win.

Micky Mellon's side now face a third-round trip to Sky Bet Championship club Cardiff.

There was little goalmouth action in an uneventful first half, but Grimsby carved out the best chance when midfielder Craig Clay fired over from 12 yards midway through.

Shrewsbury struggled to break down the well-organised visitors, with chances hard to come by.

Scott Vernon forced a comfortable save from goalkeeper James McKeown while Sullay Kaikai fired off target from distance.

Grimsby continued to look the more dangerous side in the second half. Omar Bogle drilled into the side-netting and Nathan Arnold's header from Conor Townsend's cross was superbly tipped over by goalkeeper Mark Halstead.

Junior Brown bent a shot narrowly wide for Shrewsbury but extra-time looked likely until Shrewsbury won it in stoppage-time.

McKeown saved well from Kaikai and with Grimsby unable to clear, the ball eventually ran the way of midfielder Ogogo who arrowed a first-time shot from the edge of the box to the far corner of the net to send Shrewsbury through.
