Thorne out for Bantams; Shrews short on numbers

Bradford manager Stuart McCall is without captain Peter Thorne for the trip to Shrewsbury, who are struggling with injuries. The veteran striker was substituted after 18 minutes of the Bantams' come-from-behind win against Rochdale in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with a groin injury and will not feature at New Meadow. Steven O'Leary is also ruled out with a toe problem. James Hanson is expected to deputise for Thorne and partner Gareth Evans in attack while Matt Clarke (tonsilitis) and Michael Boulding (virus) are back in training and are pushing for recalls. City secured their first win in the Johnstone's Paint trophy in four years after goals from Michael Flynn and Scott Neilson. McCall's side have won three consecutive matches in all competitions, including victories on the road at Cheltenham and Rochdale.

Shrews news

Shrewsbury have a squad of just 18 fit players - four of which are first-year professionals. Paul Simpson will call upon everyone available for the encounter with teams now able to include seven substitutes on their bench. Goalkeeper Chris Neal (groin) and midfielder Craig Disley (knee) are both looking at three weeks on the sidelines. Striker Omer Riza (ankle), midfielder Terry Dunfield (shoulder), defender Mike Jackson (bone bruising) and keeper Glyn Garner (shoulder) are all long-term absentees. Midfielder Lewis Neal made the bench for last weekend's 3-1 win at Accrington after completing his recovery from an ankle injury and he will again be available. Loan signing Steve Phillips is expected to make his home debut between the sticks having made his first start for the club at the Crown Ground.
