WATCH: SUNDERLAND 0-2 LEEDS
SUNDERLAND 0-2 LEEDS
This is a very, very good win for Leeds in the circumstances. Two finely taken goals after an early scare when Lewis Grabban hit the bar have seen Leeds up to fifth, and Thomas Christiansen will be very pleased with the way his side responded without Chris Wood.
Sunderland's early season bubble is burst though. Simon Grayson will be worried by how easily they wilted during the second half.
FT SUNDERLAND 0-2 LEEDS
WATCH: DALLAS MAKES IT TWO
88: CHANCE! That was the moment for Sunderland. McGeady rescues a lost cause and fires in a cross which Leeds stand and watch. Jones takes a touch at the far post and crashes his shot into the side netting.
85: Honeyman slides in McGeady down the left and as he cuts inside it's almost a carbon copy of the Grabban miss in the first half, the strike bouncing off the top of Jansson's head as the Swede pumps his fists in anticipation of victory.
83: It's all gone quiet around the Stadium of Light. Sunderland can sense that this one has slipped away from them and the fans are responding in kind.
Khazri looks to release Grabban but there's far too much on it and Weidwald scoops it up and says thank you very much.
82: YELLOW: Ndong leaves Alioski on the deck for a second time and this time finds himself in the book.
80: Life after Chris Wood isn't looking too shabby. Saiz is off and on comes Shaughnessy.
GOAL! SUNDERLAND 0-2 LEEDS (Dallas, 76)
Alioski to Saiz to Dallas to goal. Leeds fans ought to get used to that combination if this evening's performance is any metric.
The Macedonian's ball is simple and effective and it puts Saiz in acres of space. All he has to do is look up and pick out Dallas steaming in at the far post to send a thumping header past Steele. Game over?
SUNDERLAND 0-1 LEEDS
74: Matthews plays a weak ball over the top towards no one in particular. It's been the story of the game for Sunderland since that early flourish.
73: CHANGE: Cattermole off for Sunderland, youngster Joel Asoro comes on.
71: Still Sunderland can't seem to beat the first man, this time it's Honeyman who sees his cross dealt with by Cooper.
Sky Bet have more in-play price boosts available with Lewis Grabban 7/1 from 13/2 to score the next goal, while a 2-0 win for Leeds is 11/2 from 5s. Wahbi Khazri to score anytime is 6/1 from 5/1. Click here for latest match odds!
70: SAVE! And it needs a more than decent save from Steele to push away the strike from the Macedonian. Strong hands from the Sunderland stopper but Alioski would have been looking for more bend on the ball.
69: Kone with a less than subtle handball right on the edge of his own box under pressure from Roofe. Alioski over it...
68: YELLOW: Weidwald is in the book for time wasting.
67: They're trying to use the flanks Sunderland but every ball into the box is cleared pretty easily by Leeds. McGeady is the latest to try and clip in something dangerous but it doesn't beat the first man.
65: So Leeds have lost Ekuban and Hernandez to injury. If they do cling on to this win, which would be deserved on the balance of things, it will have come at a price.
63: Alioski has a minor falling out with Kone which predictably ends with the Macedonian bouncing off the big Sunderland defender. He isn't small Alioski, but he also isn't Kone.
61: CHANGE: Stuart Dallas is on for the injured Ekuban, who has to be helped off. Particularly concerning for Christiansen in light of the imminent departure of main man Wood.
58: Roofe looks for Ekuban down the left but the striker's dart into the box doesn't have the pace and the ball is mopped up by Kone.
Worry for Leeds as Ekuban pulls up holding the back of his leg.
55: CLOSE! A neat free kick whipped in for Sunderland and a very high Leeds defensive line looks uncertain, Jansson getting back in to the six yard box to nod it behind but it whistles very close to his own post as he does so.
The benefit of the doubt says Jansson knew exactly what he was doing there. But it was close.
53: CHANGE: Vaughan off for Khazri for Sunderland.
52: Cattermole feeds McGeady out wide and the ball is clipped in nicely from the Sunderland wide man. Ayling nips into head it behind for a Sunderland corner. Better from the hosts.
49: Similar story to that which concluded the first half. Leeds very good with the ball at feet around the edge of the box but Sunderland eventually pry it away from them with brute force. Special mentions for O'Kane and Ekuban at the start of the second half - both looking threatening with their footwork and movement.
48: A fine bending ball from Alioski isn't met by anyone in white. As the ball is clipped back in the Macedonian goes up with Galloway but it's just over his head.
Ayling though had stopped his run at the far post. Should have gambled there the full back.
46: McGeady looks to in a corner for Sunderland but is shrugged off the ball by Ayling and the decision goes to Leeds.
45: Off we go for the second half then.
LEEDS ON TOP
Leeds are now 8-13 favourites with Sky Bet to win the match, while Sunderland are 11/2 and the draw 5/2. Both teams to score is 4/6 and not to 11/10. Leeds are 3/1 to win the game 1-0, with 2-0 6/1 and 2-1 13/2. A 1-1 draw is 7/2 while a 2-1 win for Sunderland is 10/1. Click here for latest match odds!
The whistle goes and it was a real sliding-doors moment that has defined this first half. Grabban had the chance to put the hosts ahead but a stunning goal-line clearance from Cooper kept things level and within seconds Leeds were ahead through Saiz.
Since then it's been mostly Leeds. Christianson's side have pressed and harried out of possession and been very tidy with the ball at their feet.
It could have been very different. But it wasn't.
45: Saiz wins a corner for Leeds as we go into stoppage time.
42: So far so good for Leeds as far as life after Chris Woods is concerned. Sunderland have knocked the life out of things in these last ten minutes but by and large the visitors have moved the ball around well in the final third.
Alioski is a very decent attacking addition to this side and if Saiz can keep finishing like he did for the goal this could be a promising line-up for Leeds.
40: Both sides are looking to play over the top more and more as the half reaches its conclusion.
Roofe tries to buck that trend and gets an almighty kick in the legs from Jones. Leeds free kick.
38: SAVE! Cattermole lines one up from distance and sends in a daisy-cutter which Wiedwald does well to get down and gather. It wouldn't have been the first time in his career that Cattermole had come up with something spectacular from range. Not this time though from the veteran.
37: Alioski stands over a free kick for Leeds with real intent but the ball in is a waste and it drops nicely into Steele's arms.
34: There's not too much happening out there now it must be said. It's becoming a little bit scrappy, passes aren't coming off and tackles are beginning to fly in.
WATCH: SAIZ OPENS SCORING
Sky Bet currently have several in-play price boosts available including Samu Saiz to score a brace which is 5/1 from 9/2, Caleb Ekuban to score the next goal which is 9/1 from 8s and Leeds to win and both teams to score which is 100/30 from 3/1. Click here for latest match odds!
30: Galloway leaves a hole at left back and lets Alioski in behind but the winger is off target with his low drive. Galloway got away with that; very good going forward the youngster but dropped a positional rickett there.
28: The face of the game has been transformed by that Leeds goal. Suddenly Chrirstian's side look very comfortable on the ball and are dictating the tempo of things.
24: CHANGE: Hernandez makes way for Roofe for Leeds. Looks like a knock.
23: And it's nearly two! Saiz slips a perfect cross into the box and Hernandes can't wrap his head around it and it flies over. Only just, mind,.
GOAL! SUNDERLAND 0-1 LEEDS (Saiz, 21)
Leeds were inches from falling behind but in the blink of an eye they lead. Excellent strength and footwork from Alioski who beats a man and plays the simplest of balls inside for Saiz who races into the Sunderland box and cracks one into the bottom corner past Steele.
Sunderland have bee made to pay dearly for that missed chance by Grabban. Such fine margins.
SUNDERLAND 0-0 LEEDS
19: CROSSBAR! So nearly for Sunderland. Vaughan races away and feeds Grabban who cuts inside brilliantly and fires at goal from six yards, but Cooper is back on the line and turns it against the bar brilliantly with his head.
17: Saiz helped himself to a hat-trick against Port Vale in the EFL Cup earlier in August but there's been no sign of him really so far today. The Spaniard loses out on the near left touchline to Ndong as Sunderland win the ball back.
14: If you know your history of Macedonian football you'll know that the Balkan republic has a habit of producing players with very neat and tidy footwork and that's exactly what Leeds have got in Alioski. The little winger wins a free kick from Grabban who allowed himself to be tied up in a knot, but the strike from Phillips doesn't trouble Steele.
12: Sunderland have looked a tougher, more purposeful side at the start of this season and they're carrying those new habits into this evening. Galloway goes in hard with Alioski but the ball slips out of play for a Leeds throw.
10: Sunderland are making Leeds hurry and that's forcing them into mistakes. The local boy Honeyman, who has really encapsulated the improving mood on Wearside at the start of this season, looks bang up for this.
At the other end Leeds haven't been able to get it up to try out this new forward line being led by Saiz. Simon Grayson will be the happier of the managers so far.
