Polga, Moutinho and Liedson on target

Sporting Lisbon turned on the style to finish their UEFA Champions League Group F campaign with a 3-0 home win over Dynamo Kiev. Anderson Polga converted a first-half penalty for Sporting before skipper Joao Moutinho netted midway through the second period. Liedson scored a late third for Sporting, who now go into the Uefa Cup, while Kiev are left to reflect on a campaign which brought no points and saw 19 goals conceded. Kiev threatened early as Oleg Gusev's low shot was turned wide by Rui Patricio before Sporting wasted a golden chance to take the lead on 10 minutes. Abel's angled ball into the box was deftly knocked down by Liedson, but Milan Purovic flicked his shot wide of the upright when he should have scored. Visiting keeper Taras Lutsenko made routine saves from a Moutinho curler and long-range effort from Ronny, whose ambition had no limit. Sporting full-back Abel, who scored at Old Trafford a fortnight ago, again showed a penchant for shooting from all parts of the pitch as his 40-yard rocket was brushed onto the bar by Lutsenko. On 33 minutes, Patricio produced a superb save on the stretch to deny Ismael Bangoura before Sporting went down the opposite end and took the lead. Andriy Nesmachniy's clumsy challenge on Liedson resulted in a penalty, which Anderson Polga swept beyond Lutsenko. Moutinho then dragged a shot wide from the edge of the area after being teed up by Marat Izmailov, who almost capitalised on poor defending only to see his effort blocked by Lutsenko's legs. The Kiev keeper was by far the busier of the two on show and grasped a Ronny shot, and tipped an Izmailov curler over, before the half drew to a close. Kiev started the second half brightly and former Tottenham flop Sergei Rebrov will have expected better than to drag his attempt off target from the edge of the box. The Ukrainians were then unfortunate not to level when a cross deflected on to the post before substitute Artem Kravets' run and shot was dealt with comfortably by Patricio. Midway through the second half Sporting grabbed a second goal as Izmailov showed good awareness to set up Moutinho, who steered his shot into the far corner. Purovic was enduring a torrid night in front of goal as he should have scored a third for Sporting on 77 minutes when his downward header was hooked off the line by Nesmachniy. A third goal did materialise on 88 minutes when Liedson lifted his shot over Lutsenko only to suffer an injury in the process.
