Ten-man St Mirren and Dundee played out a goalless draw in Paisley in a contest between the William Hill Premiership's two lowest-scoring clubs.

Stephen Robinson's Saints played the final third of the contest a man down after Jake Young was shown a straight red card on his home debut.

In a match of few chances, the best went to St Mirren's Richard King, who failed to finish off a team counter-attack in the first half.

The draw leaves Dundee three points ahead of their opponents in ninth, while St Mirren are just three points clear of 11th-placed Kilmarnock.

The home side made four changes from their draw with Livingston, handing starts to recent signings Young and Kion Etete. Tunmise Sobowale and Scott Tanser also came into the line-up with Jayden Richardson, Conor McMenamin, Declan John and Mikael Mandron all dropping to the bench.

Dundee made three changes following their defeat to Rangers. In came Brad Halliday for his debut in place of Imari Samuels, while Joel Cotterill replaced Callum Jones and Simon Murray came in for the injured Ashley Hay.

The first chance went the way of the visitors. Tony Yogane's high cross was spilled by Shamal George in the St Mirren goal but Cameron Congreve could not direct the loose ball on target.

Saints were similarly wasteful with their first scoring opportunity after winning possession from a Dundee corner.

Etete carried the ball forward before feeding Alex Gogic wide on the right. The Cypriot's cross was weighted perfectly for King but he somehow fluffed the chance from right in front of goal.

Ethan Hamilton then registered the game's first shot on target after 32 minutes, which was easily gathered by George.

Young looked for a St Mirren penalty after going down in the box with two defenders in close attendance but referee Nick Walsh was not interested, and VAR did not intervene either.

Roland Idowu then tried his luck from the edge of the box, only for his effort to dribble out for a Dundee throw-in.

Marcus Fraser, making his 250th St Mirren appearance, looked a relieved man early in the second half after sliding Congreve's cross narrowly past his own goal.

The home side went down to 10 men after 63 minutes when Young was shown a red card for catching Halliday on the foot after overrunning the ball.

Dundee looked to take immediate advantage but Simon Murray's header from Congreve's cross drifted wide.
