A Findlay Curtis double and an own goal from St Mirren's Miguel Freckleton helped Kilmarnock to their first away win since September as they eased their Scottish Premiership relegation worries.

A second successive 3-0 victory moves Neil McCann's side four points clear of their hosts with just two matches remaining.

In contrast, St Mirren look likely to finish the season in the relegation play-off berth after losing their third post-split match without scoring a goal.

Their interim manager Craig McLeish made three changes from the team that lost to Dundee as he brought in Marcus Fraser, Liam Donnelly and Conor McMenamin for Jayden Richardson, Richard King and Scott Tanser.

Kilmarnock, in turn, made just one switch following their win over Dundee United.

In came Dominic Thompson at left-back, with Michael Schjonning-Larsen switching to the right and Bruce Anderson dropping to the bench.

The visitors took the lead in the ninth minute as Tom Lowery sent over a cross from the left and Freckleton inadvertently redirected the ball into his own net, with team-mate McMenamin unable to keep it out.

The Northern Ireland international sustained an injury in the process and was unable to continue.

St Mirren were struggling to get into the game and Roland Idowu became their second player booked for a wild challenge on Nicky Clescenco.

Idowu then almost redeemed himself with a mis-hit cross from the left wing that Kilmarnock goalkeeper Max Stryjek had to stretch to grab before it drifted into his net.

At the other end, Killian Phillips made a timely intervention to prevent Joe Hugill's cross from picking out the unmarked Curtis.

Mark O'Hara then came close with St Mirren's first real chance late in the first half but could not direct his effort beyond the goalkeeper.

Kilmarnock doubled their lead just 28 seconds into the second half after Curtis was sent running clear and the Rangers loanee finished well past Ross Sinclair in the home goal.

St Mirren looked to drag themselves back into the game but neither Jake Young nor Phillips could steer efforts on target from close range.

The visitors continued to push for a third goal but David Watson's header fell into the goalkeeper's arms.

Hugill then sprinted clear and only a great saving block from Freckleton stopped Kilmarnock from stretching their advantage before Curtis failed to finish at the far post from Watson's centre.

The winger, though, made up for it after 68 minutes when he fired in a brilliant finish to make it three.
