Curran goal lifts Tranmere over Hartlepool
Hard-working Tranmere posted their first success of the new season as Hartlepool's winning start ended with a 1-0 defeat.
Craig Curran gave Tranmere a 23rd minute lead and it proved enough as he netted with a fine strike from the edge of the box after Edrissa Sonko flicked on a long Ben Chorley clearance, the ball going in off keeper Arran Lee-Barrett's right-hand post.
But the Merseysiders lived dangerously at times.
James Brown was denied by a fine Andy Taylor tackle, a Gary Liddle effort was somehow hacked clear by Chorley and just before the break Liddle was denied by the outstretched leg of keeper Danny Coyne.
Tranmere should have doubled their lead straight after the re-start, but Sonko mis-hit his shot when set up by Godwin Antwi.
Then a Curran effort from an Andy Taylor cross was ruled out for offside just short of the hour.
