Hornets looking to pile more misery on Clarets

Watford will be hoping to take advantage of Burnley's recent wobble when they meet on Tuesday. The Hornets have been in poor form themselves of late, slipping to the fringes of the relegation zone on the back of four defeats in five games. The Clarets, however, have hit a serious slump, losing four on the bounce to drop out of the play-off places.

Watford team news

Watford are expected to hand an immediate debut to centre-half Mike Williamson. Williamson completed a move from League Two leaders Wycombe on Monday and he will go straight into Brendan Rodgers' side in a bid to plug the Championship's leakiest defence. That should see Adrian Mariappa miss out while star man Tommy Smith will also come back into the side. Smith was rested for the 4-3 FA Cup win over Crystal Palace at the weekend but will come in as the Hornets search for a much-needed win. Rodgers may revert to his preferred 4-3-3 formation after playing two up front against Palace but will find it hard to leave Will Hoskins out after he scored in a fine performance. Goalkeeper Mart Poom (shoulder) and Gareth Williams (knee) remain long-term absentees.
Burnley team news
Burnley manager Owen Coyle again looks set to be without defender Stephen Jordan when his side travel to Vicarage Road. The former Manchester City left-back missed Saturday's FA Cup tie at West Brom due to a knee ligament injury sustained in last week's Carling Cup tie with Tottenham. Jordan was withdrawn after 39 minutes against Spurs and was replaced by Christian Kalvenes, who deputised for him at The Hawthorns and could do so again on Tuesday. Coyle could shuffle his pack against the Hornets as his side bid to cope with the hectic fixture schedule which has accompanied their success in the cup competitions. With that in mind, striker Steve Thompson could earn a recall to the starting line-up.
