West Ham have been relegated from the Premier League despite beating Leeds 3-0.

On a final day where only a Hammers win and Spurs loss to Everton would save them, West Ham did their end of the bargain with goals from Taty Castellanos, Jarrod Bowen and Callum Wilson. But there were no favours from former boss David Moyes with Everton, who lost 1-0 at Spurs.

The Hammers drop out of the top flight after 14 seasons. They last played in the Sky Bet Championship under Sam Allardyce in 2011/12.

A horror start to the season set the tone under Graham Potter and despite a resurgence under Nuno Espirito Santo, it was not enough for a great escape.

Maybe the Hammers can count themselves a tad unlucky as 32.4 points has been enough for safety on average over the last nine seasons. They finished on 39 points.

Player of the Match: Matheus Fernandes

It was too little too late in the end as the fans' frustrations boiled over in the second half with songs directed at joint-owner David Sullivan.

The game itself saw Leeds have the better of the early knockings but fail to score with Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin missing excellent chances.

The impressive Matheus Fernandes, who surely won't be playing in the Championship next season. saw a drive beaten away by Karl Darlow but West Ham were booed off at the break after news that Joao Palhinha had put Spurs ahead.

Hope arrived in the 67th minute when Bowen swung in a corner and Castellanos rose highest at the far post to bury a powerful header. Bowen then ended his 13-game goal drought with a typically astute finish from a tight angle before Wilson struck a third in stoppage time.

The Leeds fans were in no mood to be sympathetic, chanting "Lincoln away ole ole" towards the home end at the full-time whistle.

Bowen 'hurting' but vows to get club back to Premier League

West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen speaking to Sky Sports:

"It hurts, a horrible place to be in football. Relegation for a club like this, it hurts. We did enough today but throughout the season we haven't.

"You can pinpoint many things but when you go out on the pitch, it's about players turning up week in and week out. Last season we managed to wriggle out of it but we haven't this time; we have been there all season.

"It's not something that has just happened. The last couple of seasons, we have been below the standards. We haven't done enough consistently to pick up the points.

"We have not been good enough and we have paid the biggest price. We thought maybe it was a one-off season, in the European season we finished 14th but no one remembers as we won a trophy.

"We didn't do enough on the pitch to grind out results. We have been leading games and dropped points, in this league, you have to fight and earn every point."

On his own future: "I am under contract here, I have been here six-and-a-half years. There are going to be rumours, talk and nonsense. But ultimately what I see is getting this club back in the Premier League. It is where it deserves to be, it is a really low moment but we have to bounce back.

"I have had some really good moments but this is really difficult. You never know what the future holds. For me, I want to see this club back in the Premier League."

Farke: Leeds have a bright future

    Leeds boss Daniel Farke:

"I have to say commisiorations for West Ham. Sad day when a club goes down. It is fair to say that today was one game too many without too many key players.

"We should've gone into the lead and put the game to bed but we were sloppy in possession.

"We will travel back home and when the disappointment settles, we can look back on a fantastic season. I am very proud.

"They have played a fantastic season. We can go home and recharge, then have fresh energy to build on this again. We have a bright future because the foundations are there.

"We have started to speak about the future and of course this will continue in the upcoming weeks. It is important to take some time to recharge.

"Since arrival was confirmed, we have already started to work."
