Savinho is ready to join Tottenham but City want to sign a replacement and the departures of Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders in the last week have dominated proceedings in Manchester.

Spurs are also waiting for Liverpool to sign Bradley Barcola and - potentially - his Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Ibrahim Mbaye before they bid for Gakpo on top of Savinho.

If they cannot get Gakpo, Spurs are believed to be ready to pursue other targets with interest in Pedro Neto at Chelsea.

Omar Marmoush at City is one on their list but - again - the Manchester club would need to replace him.

In theory, that means Spurs could make up to nine first-team signings this summer, despite having already spent more than £200m.

Jan Paul van Hecke, meanwhile, joined from Brighton for £52m to replace Cristian Romero. Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka all arrived on free transfers.
