Weir was sent off before Chloe Craig stepped up to dispatch the penalty for the hosts.

But Glasgow City showed the grit that helped them to become champions last season and fought back to level terms despite having 10 players as Lauren Davidson's strike deflected in off Kelly Clark.

But Celtic finally made their numerical advantage count when Cavanagh drilled in a brilliant winner in the 89th minute.

Celtic are now unbeaten in their last four matches with Glasgow City, while they have now won their first eight SWPL matches of the season.
