In a tale of two contrasting returns to the top flight, substitute Liam Millar scored late on to seal Hull's second straight victory in a 1-0 win at the CBS while Frank Lampard's Coventry fell to a second consecutive league defeat.
Still high on their opening scalp against Manchester United, after Millar slotted past Carl Rushworth on the break, there were chants of "we're going to win the league" from the away end.
In scoring the winner, Millar, who replaced Elliot Stroud in the second half, made up for an earlier miss on the counter where he dragged a big chance wide of the target.

Coventry failed to mark their first home game in the Premier League for 25 years with a victory, but looked the more likely side when new signing Taiwo Awoniyi was denied by Konstantinos Tzolakis in the first half. Awoniyi made a nuisance of himself in his first Premier League start for the Sky Blues after scoring in a 4-2 win over Plymouth in the Carabao Cup in midweek. But it wasn't enough.
Instead, Coventry spurned a huge opportunity to avenge their defeat to Champions Arsenal in the curtain-raiser in what was dubbed a 'relegation six-pointer'. It was a baptism of fire on the opening day for Lampard's side, but as the Championship winners, against the play-off winners, the chance to take at least a point was invaluable.

21: CHANCE! Hull fail to clear their lines and the ball eventually rolls to Yerenkyi, who finds Awoniyi with a cross. Awoniyi meets it, heading right at Tzolakis.
38: BIG CHANCE! Tzolakis denies a sure goal from Awoniyi. The ball is whipped into the area by Tchaouna before falling to the striker. It looked like he knew very little about it as it bounced off his thigh goalwards.

McBurnie: Man Utd was a free hit - this was more important
Hull City's Oli McBurnie speaking to Sky Sports:
"It suits us the longer the game goes on at 0-0. We're at their place. They want to win after their first game so we knew the pressure would be on them. At the end of the day, a 0-0 wouldn't have been the worst result for us.
"The pressure wasn't on us to score. The moment they committed forward, the more space we thought would appear. That was the case, and thankfully Liam stuck one in the net.
"They are all tough in the Premier League; it doesn't get much harder.
Manchester United was a different challenge, last week was a free hit but these games against teams that are so-called around us are more important when it comes to the end of the season.
"They didn't have the best result last week but we know they are a really good team. It's an excellent result for us. As starts go, two from two isn't bad."
