Italy vs Portugal
Nations League Grp A3
7:45pm Saturday 17th November
WATCH: MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
ITALY 0-0 PORTUGAL
It's all over at the San Siro and Portugal are the first team to qualify for the Nations League finals next summer as they top Group A3 with a game to spare.
For Italy, they will remain in the group for the next Nations League competition but will be frustrated with their performance after a dominant first half.
However, they could not take advantage and were rather tepid in the second period. For Portugal, they offered little up front but it is job done for them tonight.
90+2: A great clearance from Danilo for his first touch of the ball as he sees Barella's cross behind with a diving header.
Pellegrini gets up high to meet the corner delivery, but his own header goes straight into the hands of Patricio.
90: A last change for Portugal, too, as Danilo replaces Andre Silva.
Four minutes of added time at the San Siro.
87: The final Italy change now as Berardi comes on for Chiesa.
ITALY 0-0 PORTUGAL
85: Another Portugal change as Bruma makes way for Guerreiro.
84: Chiesa is down after a collision with Rui just outside the area, although it looks like the former caught the Portugal man with an elbow before both went to ground.
Insigne picks up the loose ball and fires, but it goes just past the post.
There is a disucsison between the referee and his linesman to try and decipher what happens, but Chiesa gets away without a booking.
81: Another Italy change with Verratti being replaced by Pellegrini. A good performance from Verratti tonight.
79: Free kick to Portugal as Chiellini fouls Andre Silva in the middle of the Italy half.
It's another short free kick though, and it's clear Portugal have been coached to build from the back.
78: Portugal are in the ascendancy as we head into the final part of the game and the Italian defence is being really tested for the first time.
Remember, a draw would be enough for Portugal to make the Nations League finals. Italy need to win to have a chance.
77: SAVE!! A big save from Donnarumma.
Andre Silva cuts the ball back from deep on the right, with Bonucci's touch taking it into the path of Carvalho at the top of the area.
He strikes, but Donnarumma gets down low to make a fingertip save and keep Portugal at bay.
75: Here comes Lasanga, replacing Immobile, who has been quiet in the second half.
74: CHANCE! The first real chance that Portugal have had this half.
Cancelo picks up a great long pass down the right flank before cutting the ball back for Joao Mario in the middle of the area. He strikes, but it goes high over the crossbar.
73: Bonucci is the next player in the book and the second Italian to see yellow this evening.
71: Lasanga is being prepared for Italy. Not the food, the Italian striker, Kevin.
70: A free kick for Portugal now and it's Bernardo Silva who picks out Rui over on the left flank with a short free kick. He drives towards goal before striking, but it just flashes wide of Donnarumma's upright.
67: Here comes that change for Portugal as Pizzi comes off for Joao Mario.
65: Rui drives towards the Italy area and tries to smash home from distance, but it hits the back of an Italy defender before going wide.
Andre Silva was in pursuit on Rui's right, and he apologises to his team-mate afterwards for his actions. Portugal have had few chances and that was one missed for them tonight.
63: Joao Mario is being readied on the Portugal bench, but no signs of movement for Italy yet.
62: A long cross from Biraghi finds Barella over on the left-hand side but as he tries to put the ball back across the area, it smacks off the body of Rui and goes out for a throw-in.
60: An hour played and the deadlock is yet to be broken. I'd expect a few changes to come soon to try and force a result at the San Siro.
57: Good clearance from Neves as Biraghi tries to slip in Chiesa in the area, but the Portugal man is there to see it away before Italy can have a shot.
55: Pizzi takes but Donnarumma is up to collect it easily. His first touch of the ball with his hands, I think!
54: Jorginho is the first Italy player in the book after a foul on Bruma, and to be fair, it has been coming.
53: Another wayward effort from Insigne as he collects a pass at the top of the area from from Jorginho and tries to catch Patricio off-guard, but his swept strike goes well wide of the far post.
51: Insigne is furious with himself as Verratti chips a wonderful ball over the top for him, but he just cannot get onto the end of it. He would have had a decent sight of goal too.
50: CHANCE! Great ball down the left-hand side from Verratti, picking out Biraghi.
He then lofts a ball into the area that Chiesa meets but his attempt to sweep home is put behind by the Portugal defence. He wasn't far away either!
48: A stop-start beginning to this half with a few niggly free kicks in Italy's favour. No real intent going forward for either side just yet.
46: Here we go them ladies and gents, Italy get us back under way at the San Siro.
Italy have seen all the possession and the lions share of the chances, but they have been able to convert.
Rui Patricio has made some great saves to keep them out, but Italy really need to win and Roberto Mancini will be encouraging them to capitalise on their dominance in the second half.
For Portugal, they have arguably defended well and should be patting Patricio on the back for his first half efforts, but a draw is job done for them. Hopefully a bit more attacking intent from them in the second period, though.
45: Two minutes of added time.
44: Free kick for Portugal now as Pizzi is caught by Florenzi.
They play is short though, and not much comes from it. You feel like that should have been floated into the area really!
43: It's Biraghi who takes, trying to beat the wall, but it smacks into the sea of bodies before Florezni attempts to thump home the rebound from range, but it fires well wide of the post.
41: Another Italy free kick, this time about 35 yards out as Barella is clipped by Dias. There are a few Italy players around it, but who will take?...
40: It's a final warning for Portugal as Italy are awarded another free kick with Chiellini fouled by Pizzi - no mean feat!
Referee Danny Makkelie signals that it's the last of those tackles he will let go for Portugal and they will start picking up more bookings from now on.
37: CHANCE! Insigne delivers the free kick and Bonucci rises highest to nod towards goal, but it hammers into the wrong side of the net. He's appealing for a corner in the aftermath but the ball quite clearly came off his head last.
ITALY 0-0 PORTUGAL
36: Another Portugal booking, his time Mario Rui, and he will also miss the next game against Poland.
He puts in a tough tackle on Chiesa down the right flank, sending the Italian flying, and the hosts have a free kick in a dangerous position.
35: SAVE! Wonderful save from Patricio again!
Immobile rushes into the area as Veratti plays him through, but as he takes his shot, Paritico comes racing out to see the ball away.
33: Barella is rolling around on the floor, clutching his leg after a strong challenge from Neves. The referee allows play on but makes a note of the foul before going back to book the Wolves midfielder when play is halted.
Neves tries to plead his innocence but it doesn't work and he will now miss the next game for Portugal, which is their final Nations League game against Poland on Tuesday.
It could be massive if they lose here tonight.
30: Free kick to Portugal as they bring another period of Italy pressure to a halt as Jorginho fouls Pizzi.
No booking for the Chelsea midfielder yet, but you feel as if one is coming his way.
27: Another good ball into the area from Italy, Barella the providers from the right this time, but Cancelo gets a head onto it to see it away.
Italy really need to start converting some of these soon. They need a win tonight to give them a chance of making next summer's Nations League finals while the draw as it stands is enough for Portugal to go through.
25: NO PENALTY! Biraghi goes down on the side of the area, but referee Danny Makkelie waves away the claims. Cancelo and Bernanrdo Silva get themselves in front of the Italian and there was little in the way of a foul.
Not long after, Carvalho is taken down by Jorginho for a Portgual free kick, which gets a reaction from the hosts but the decision stands.
22: A good defensive header from Fonte as Insigne lofts a cross in from the left flank, but the Portgual defender sees it away for a corner.
19: Superb skill from Verratti! He twists and turns inside the area, getting the ball past three Portugal defenders who surround him, before picking out Barella at the top of the area.
He strikes from distance but it goes high and wide of Patricio's goal.
17: Italy are seeing the better of possession in the last few minutes, with most outfield players camped in the Portugal half.
They need to be careful, though, because Portugal have already hit them on the break a few times.
14: Interesting clearance from Florenzi, one to give Italy fans a heart attack!
Cancelo puts a superb ball into the area from the right flank but the Italy defender puts it over the crossbar from point blank range.
That could easily have been an own goal, but luckily for Florenzi, it comes off!
12: BLOCK! Superb from captain and centurion Chiellini, who loses out to Bruma near the Italy box, which sees the Portgual man burst into the area.
But the defender gets back brilliantly to put his eventual shot behind fo a corner, although Portugal do not make much with the advantage.
10: Another collection for Patricio as Chisea curls a cross in from the right flank - still Italy's main source of attacking play - but the goalkeeper is out to collect.
He nearly collides with Fonte's knee again though, and he needs to start communicating with his defenders to avoid a concussion!
7: AGAIN! Another chance comes and goes for Italy as Neves' poor clearance from inside the area allows Florenzi to stride onto the ball and strike, but it just goes wide of the far post.
6: CHANCES!! Big save from Patricio!
Insigne hammers an effort towards goal but the Portugal goalkeeper is across to make the save. However, the rebound falls to the incoming Immobile at the near post, but he flashes it over the crossbar. He needs to be hitting the mark with that.
There is brief stoppage as Patricio receives medical treatment after his face collided with Fonte's knee. He'll be OK, though.
