Ismaila Sarr had threatened to spoil the hosts' long-awaited celebrations after giving the visitors an early lead, not that that dampened the mood among the home fans, who had waited 35 years to watch their side lift the title.

The other was whether the champions would give the recently crowned FA Cup winners their own guard of honour, which they did in what was a nice touch from the Reds in what was a party racous at Anfield, where former managers Jurgen Klopp and Rafael Benitez, as well as ex-captain Steven Gerrard, were all spotted in the build-up.

Team news

Liverpool made four changes from their loss at Brighton, with Virgil van Dijk, Curtis Jones and Luis Diaz all restored, but the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold once again had to settle for a place on the bench.

Palace also made four alterations from their midweek win over Wolves Back as in came Jean-Philippe Mateta, Tyrick Mitchell, Eberechi Eze and Daichi Kamada - though Adam Wharton and Marc Guehi both remain sidelined.

However, the Eagles did not read the script, taking a ninth-minute lead when Tyrick Mitchell intercepted Bradley's pass down the line intended for Salah, before neatly spinning and finding Sarr, who coolly slotted past Alisson.

Alexander-Arnold was then brought on at half-time as Liverpool searched for a way into the contest, with the defender again receiving warm applause from around the ground, with the home fans maybe having taken on board Klopp's advice not to boo the player.

Despite huffing and puffing, though, the champions were largely frustrated by Palace and when Ryan Gravenberch, already on a yellow, was shown a straight red card for hauling down Daichi Kamada on halfway midway through the second half, the game appeared up for the Reds.

Slot: I knew we would be in title contention from September

Arne Slot shares his thoughts as Liverpool lift the 2024/25 Premier League trophy at Anfield.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot to Sky Sports:

"Thinking we'd be part of the title race started early in the season, maybe after the Man Utd win (on September 1).

"Before that, we played good teams but Man Utd was extra special. We expected them to be top six, so to beat them 3-0 at their stadium made me realise we could compete for the league.

"Maybe after Man City away (on February 23) was a moment where I felt it would be very hard for other teams to end above us."

Glasner unhappy with Palace performance despite draw

Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner:

"Today, I have two feelings. I'm not really pleased with our performance, a few players didn't play 100 per cent for the team the way we want to play.

"I didn't like to see that. That's why we got the draw because there were so many situations where we could've won this game, and I don't forget our start to the season when we were missing chances because of a little bit of a lack of determination.

"On the other side, of course it's an unbeaten end of the season, a points record and winning the FA Cup. Hopefully we learn from this game when we meet for pre-season that we don't make the same mistakes again."
