Reading have confirmed the arrival of Chelsea midfielder John Swift after the 21-year-old signed a three-year deal with the Royals.

Swift spent last season on loan at Brentford and has now made a permanent switch to the Championship after scoring seven goals in 27 league appearances with the Bees.

The England U21 international has been at Chelsea since 2007, coming through their youth ranks and Reading manager Jaap Stam said he is looking forward to seeing Swift improve even more over the coming season.

"John is a very talented player," Stam told the club website. "I've seen him play and I think he could be very important in the way we want to play.
