Middlesbrough goalkeeper Brad Guzan will join Atlanta United this summer after signing a pre-contract agreement.
The 32-year-old will link up with his new MLS side, who were founded only two years ago, at the end of the season.
Guzan has had to play back-up to Victor Valdes at Boro in the current campaign and has now put pen to paper on a multi-year deal with Atlanta to return to the United States.
"The chance for Guzan to return to the USA and continue his career has presented itself in recent weeks and, recognising the opportunity for him and his family, he will depart in the summer with the best wishes of all connected with Middlesbrough," a club statement read.
Atlanta signed Guzan using their No 1 draft pick from the MLS Allocation Process - the mechanism used to determine which club has first priority to acquire a player on the Allocation Ranking List.
Middlesbrough have confirmed Guzan will remain a key member of Aitor Karanka's squad until his departure at the end of the season.
Guzan began his career with MLS side Chivas and has 53 caps for the US national team following his debut in 2006.
