QPR have recalled midfielder Ryan Manning from his loan spell with Sky Bet Championship rivals Rotherham.

Manning was due to be spending the entire 2018-19 season at the New York Stadium but QPR have activated a recall clause in the deal.

The 22-year-old is needed to provide cover for Massimo Luongo, who is away with Australia at the Asian Cup during January, and the injured Geoff Cameron.

Manning scored four goals in 18 games for Rotherham and was called into the Republic of Ireland's senior squad for the first time in November, but did not secure his international debut.

"We are pleased to welcome Ryan back." boss Steve McClaren told the club's website.

"At the start of the season, he wanted to play and we couldn't guarantee him games. Once we brought Geoff in, it enabled us to release Ryan so he could go out and play in the Championship.

"With Mass away with Australia and Geoff now out, it's good timing for Ryan to return.
