Millwall veteran plans to extend playing career

Millwall caretaker manager Richard Shaw has ruled himself out of the running for the full-time role at The Den. Shaw has been placed in temporary charge of the Lions, alongside coach Colin West, following Willie Donachie's dismissal on Monday night. But the 39-year-old says he wants to focus on prolonging his playing career by helping the south Londoners off the foot of the League One table.

Respect

"I liked and respected Willie very much and in that respect I was disappointed to see him go," Shaw told the club's official website. "At the same time, this is a results business so I can also understand why the board took that decision. It's vital now that the managerial situation is sorted out as quickly as possible. "I'm happy to do the job with Westy in the meantime, but I'm still enjoying playing at the moment and that's what I want to focus on."
