Striker exodus continues at Route de Lorient

Ismael Bangoura has become the latest forward to be offloaded by Ligue 1 outfit Rennes. The French side have already allowed Moussa Sow, Jimmy Briand, Michael Pagis and Asamoah Gyan to head for the exits, but had no problem with sanctioning another sale. Having seen Guinea international Bangoura fail to live up to expectations following his arrival from Dynamo Kiev last summer, they felt an offer from Dubai-based club Al-Nasr was too good to turn down. As a result, the 25-year-old striker is now off to the Middle East in a deal reported to be worth around €8million (£6.7m) to Rennes. "We had an opportunity and we decided to seize it," general manager Pierre Dreossi told L'Equipe. "The player didn't want to stay and the coach didn't rely on him. We are satisfied with the players we have. There is no emergency."

Improve

Bangoura is hoping that a fresh challenge will help him to reignite his career, as he arrived in France last year with a glowing reputation. He insists his decision to move on was not motivated by money, but by the desire to help raise the profile of football in Dubai. "I am delighted to have joined my new club," Bangoura told skysports.com. "After Dynamo Kiev and Rennes, I have come here to improve the football in this part of the world. "People talk about choosing money, but there are a lot of good players in this part of the world now. "I will still be very competitive and I am happy with my decision."
