Keeper wants reserve spot at Amsterdam Arena

NEC Nijmegen goalkeeper Gabor Babos is targeting a move to Ajax if Maarten Stekelenburg leaves the club this summer.

Ajax No.1 Stekelenburg has been linked with a switch away from the Eredivisie champions, with Roma thought to be chasing his signature, although the club claim no offers have come in for the keeper.

Babos, who is contracted in Nijmegen until next June, is targeting a new challenge after losing the gloves at NEC to Jasper Cillessen.

And the 36-year-old Hungarian is keen to become second-choice shot-stopper at Ajax behind Kenneth Vermeer if the position becomes available.

"I've just read in Holland that Stekelenburg says he hasn't had talks with any clubs," Babos told origo.hu.

"If Stekelenburg happens to leave Ajax then I might be a candidate for the second-choice goalkeeper position.

"This would be a unique possibility for me at the age of 36. It would be an honour even if I'm on the bench.

"In the event of an injury or a red card I could play in the UEFA Champions League."
