Manchester City Women scoop WSL honours at awards ceremony

Manchester City were named Women’s Super League (WSL) Club of the Year at the FA Women's Football Awards on Friday night.

City won the women's top flight this year, finishing five points clear of Chelsea, and they also claimed the Continental Cup after beating Birmingham 1-0 in the final.

Their players had a successful night too, with Lucy Bronze winning the FA WSL 1 Players' Player of the Year, while Nick Cushing was named the FA WSL Manager of the Year.

Jordan Nobbs scooped the award for England Player of the Year and Millie Bright was named the England Young Player of the Year.

Chelsea and England striker Eni Aluko secured the golden boot after she finished as the top scorer in WSL 1.

Other winners included Lindsey Stephenson of Middlesbrough, who won the WPL Manager of the Year, while Ini-Abasi Umotong of Oxford won the WSL 2 Players' Player of the Year.

Meanwhile, former England women boss Hope Powell was also recognised in the final presentation of the night, as the 49-year-old took the outstanding contribution to women's football award.

Powell won 66 international caps before going on to manage England for 15 years, leading them to the final of the Euros in 2009.
