La Liga Power Rankings: Guillem Balague examines the best XI

Power Rankings

Every week at Sky Sports we list the top-performing players in La Liga using our unique Power Rankings.

The rankings are based on 32 different statistics, from goals and assists to blocks and tackles, with players in every position amassing a different number of points for certain achievements.

So which players have accumulated the most points so far?

With one-third of the season gone, our best XI so far contains three representatives from Barcelona and Valencia, two from Atletico Madrid and one each from Real Madrid, Celta Vigo and Sevilla.

Let's start by looking at the top goalkeeper. Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Valencia's Neto have both impressed, but Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak moved above them in the Power Rankings with his eighth clean sheet of the season against Levante on Saturday.

Oblak has made 44 saves and conceded only six goals. Of the regular starting goalkeepers, only Ter Stegen has conceded fewer. And, with two penalty saves this season, he has also saved more spot kicks than any other goalkeeper.

In defence, we have two Barcelona players. Samuel Umtiti shone their 1-1 draw with Valencia on Sunday. It was not the first time he has impressed defensively this season, and he has also registered the best passing accuracy rate of any defender in La Liga.

Jordi Alba has been just as impressive. The left-back's equaliser against Valencia was his first goal of the season but no defender has contributed more than his four assists.

Sevilla's Clement Langlet partners Umtiti at centre-back having scored twice already this season, while Valencia's Martin Montoya is the top right-back, making more interceptions than any of his team-mates.

The midfield has a Madrid feel. In the middle of the park, Isco waves the flag for Real. As well as providing four goals and three assists this season, he has created more chances than any of his team-mates.

He is partnered by Saul Niguez, who has made nearly twice as many tackles as any other Atletico player.

Goncalo Guedes, the Valencia winger on loan from PSG, lines up on the left flank. He has amassed a big Power Rankings points total this season partly thanks to his three goals and five assists.

The only player in our team from outside La Liga's top clubs is Celta Vigo winger Pione Sisto. He has been outstanding for the Galician side, making the most assists in La Liga with eight.

While Cristiano Ronaldo misses out, it will come as little surprise that Lionel Messi is the top-ranking player in this season's Power Rankings so far.

The little Argentine has been in brilliant form for Ernesto Valverde's side. He is the top scorer in La Liga with 12 goals and he has also completed 73 successful dribbles - more than twice as many as anyone else.

He is partnered by Valencia's Simone Zaza. The Italian may have struggled at West Ham but it has been a very different story at Mestalla. He has scored nine goals so far - the most by any Valencia player and only three fewer than Messi.
