Rangers have been handed a boost ahead of Thursday's visit of Spartak Moscow after the Russian side sacked their manager Massimo Carrera.

Carerra, who had a brief spell as Juventus caretaker boss in 2012, was appointed Spartak manager ahead of the 2016-17 season, and immediately guided the club to the Russian title.

However, Spartak are currently languishing in seventh position in the Russian Premier League, seven points behind leaders Zenit Saint Petersburg after 11 games.
