Middlesbrough's preparations for their match with Leeds on Saturday have been disrupted after their flight home from Newport on Tuesday night was cancelled due to engine failure.

The Middlesbrough squad were forced to about-turn on the Cardiff Airport runway following their 2-0 FA Cup defeat to League Two Newport County.

The decision was taken to re-board the team bus and return to Middlesbrough by road, meaning the team did not return until 7am with the players having to sleep on the coach.

It was a nightmare evening all round for Tony Pulis' men as they crashed out the FA Cup to the League Two side on a heavy pitch that just passed a pre-match inspection.

Before Middlesbrough had even got to Newport their flight down to South Wales was delayed by two hours because of the weather.

They now face high-flying Leeds on Saturday in a match that could have a big bearing on promotion.
