Liverpool 3 Everton 2 - April 1999
Steven Gerrard's first appearance in a Merseyside derby resulted in victory - Liverpool's first in the fixture for five years. It didn't seem particularly likely after Olivier Dacourt had given the visitors the lead, but the Reds turned it around for their first league win in two months.
Robbie Fowler's brace, the first of which was celebrated with a notorious sniffing gesture on the line, turned the game around and Patrik Berger's volley extended the lead. But Francis Jeffers' goal made for a nervy finale.
On an emotional day that had featured a minute's silence to mark the 10th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, Gerrard ensured that Liverpool would get the win by clearing Danny Cadamarteri's shot off the line late on.
Liverpool 0 Everton 1 - September 1999
Everton's 1999 Anfield win wasn't a classic in terms of goalscoring but sums up some of the fighting spirit that has been emblematic of this fixture over the years. No fewer than three players saw red in as Everton earned a measure of revenge for the defeat in the spring.
Sander Westerveld and then Gerrard were both sent off for the home side, with Michael Owen fortunate not to join them, while Jeffers was red carded for the visitors. But before all that came the only goal of the game - Kevin Campbell scoring after just four minutes.
Everton 2 Liverpool 3 - April 2001
Liverpool's first win at Goodison Park in over a decade came despite having been reduced to 10 men by Igor Biscan's red card in a typically feisty Merseyside derby. What was not typical was the game's conclusion, courtesy of Gary McAllister's 44-yard winner in stoppage time.
The veteran Scot caught out Paul Gerrard by sneaking the ball in at the near post leaving the Everton players to argue amongst themselves. "We were slow to react to the free-kick," admitted Toffees boss Walter Smith. "We deserved it," said counterpart Gerard Houllier.
Liverpool had twice taken the lead thanks to goals by Emile Heskey and Markus Babbel but each time had been pegged back by the home side - first through Duncan Ferguson and then by David Unsworth via the penalty spot. But there was no answer to McAllister.
Liverpool 3 Everton 1 - March 2006
Afterwards, having seen Gerrard sent off for two bookable offences, Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez urged his players to play with brains as well as heart. The supporters would have been happy enough with the victory.
Phil Neville's own goal and Luis Garcia's fine finish quickly gave Liverpool a two-goal advantage even after Gerrard's indiscretion and while Tim Cahill pulled one back, Andy van der Mayde picked up a red card of his own before Harry Kewell finished things off.
Everton 3 Liverpool 0 - September 2006
Six months later it was very different. This was not only Everton's biggest derby win in 42 years but also the first time they'd scored three goals in a league game between the two clubs since 1966 as they brushed aside Benitez's Liverpool in emphatic fashion.
Cahill opened the scoring before Andrew Johnson netted a brace to seal the victory - the striker earning the praise of manager David Moyes who later described him as an "unbelievable striker".
Johnson had seized upon a Jamie Carragher error for his first goal with Benitez having to defend his decision to rush the player back from injury, while the Everton man's second came after Pepe Reina had failed to deal with Lee Carsley's shot late on.
Everton 3 Liverpool 3 - November 2013
Romelu Lukaku looked set to be the hero of this 2013 meeting, scoring twice in his first Merseyside derby appearance, only to be upstaged by Daniel Sturridge who came off the bench to net a late equaliser for Brendan Rodgers' visitors.
It was a thrilling contest with Rodgers describing the game as "brilliant" and Everton boss Roberto Martinez opting for "magnificent". But even a game which also featured early goals by Philippe Coutinho, Kevin Mirallas and Luis Suarez wasn't without its share of controversy.
Mirallas was widely viewed as lucky to escape a lunging studs-up challenge on Suarez. "Mirallas should have been sent off," said Rodgers. "The challenge was a really bad one, you could end a player's career jumping in like that."
Liverpool 4 Everton 0 - January 2014
Far from ending Suarez's career, the Liverpool forward went on to play a huge part in the club's wonderful season - and certainly helped inflict Everton's biggest derby defeat since 1982 when the sides met again in January.
"Are you Moyesy in disguise?" chanted the home fans as Martinez's men had no answer to Liverpool. Gerrard's header opened the scoring - an incident in which Lukaku was injured by colliding with team-mate Gareth Barry - and things got worse from there.
Sturridge scored twice in the space of three minutes and Suarez added a fourth shortly after the interval as Liverpool claimed the points - embarking on a six-game winning run at Anfield that would take them to within a whisker of a first title in 24 years.
