Sky sources revealed recently that Manchester United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward had begun negotiations that could see Pogba return to Old Trafford in a world-record deal worth £100m, underscoring Pogba's position at the top of the Football Whispers charts.

Despite Pogba's agent, Mino Raiola, saying initial talks with Real Madrid had taken place, and Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Guillem Balague adding that Madrid is the player's preferred destination, we understand the European champions are out of the running for his signature.

But there were further developments last week as the player's agent told The Times that the France international could end up staying at Juventus, adding another twist in this long-running transfer saga.

2. James Rodriguez (Real Madrid) - 2.8

Languishing well behind Pogba but still second in the Football Whispers list, James Rodriguez has jumped from 1.1 on Saturday to 2.8 on Sunday morning. 

The forward struggled to hold down a regular starting place at the Bernabeu last season under two different managers, and Colombia coach Hernan Dario Gomez has urged the 'world-class' player to seek first-team football elsewhere next term.

3. Nemanja Matic (Chelsea) - 1.3

Mourinho is also understood to be keen on being reunited with Chelsea's holding midfielder at Old Trafford next season, with this rumour at No 3 on the Football Whisper charts.

With N'Golo Kante arriving at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, the Serbia international could find himself dropping down the pecking order after an inconsistent 2015/16 season.

However, he is contracted to Chelsea until the summer of 2019, so the Red Devils may have to splash the cash in order to lure him to the north west.
