All the latest Liverpool transfer news and rumours from across the British and European press on Monday, June 5.

Liverpool are reportedly in a three-way battle to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.

The Liverpool Echo say the Reds will match the "financial clout" of Manchester City and Chelsea but must now convince Van Dijk to move to Anfield.

It is reported that the 25-year-old has been a priority for Jurgen Klopp for a while and the Reds have been "encouraged by the feedback received from Van Dijk's representatives".

The Saints are apparently holding out for more than £50m for the defender.

Germany international Max Meyer has turned down a new deal with Schalke. The 21-year-old, who has been linked with Liverpool and Tottenham, told Bild: "I received an offer of a contract extension, but with my management I decided to turn it down. We will see if I leave this summer.
