Liverpool vice-captain has been left out of the squad to face Brighton on Sunday due to a muscle injury.

Milner, 32, sits out the final Premier League match of the season due to a muscle issue which has prevented the midfielder from training ahead of the match.

Dominic Solanke has replaced the former England midfielder in Jurgen Klopp's line-up for Sunday's game at Anfield.

The Liverpool manager confirmed Milner has been unable to train all week but maintained he is hopeful he will recover in time to feature in the Champions League final against on May 26.

"It's a little injury. It's serious enough to put him out for today; he couldn't train the whole week," Klopp told Liverpool's website ahead of kick-off.

"We hope it will work out. But we had to accept it and we had to think about solutions. That's the solution: Dom is in the team. Now we can go."

Adam Lallana is fit, however, to take his play among Liverpool's substitutes after six weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

"Good, of course. [He is] an important option for us," Klopp continued.

"How long [he could play], I don't know - we have to see what's possible. But he trained completely normally, and that's of course good for us in these times."
