Liverpool’s historic Champions League semi-final victory will live long in the memory.

A performance to trump all imaginable comeback scenarios, encapsulated by genius instinctive play from an academy product, played out in front of a fervent Anfield atmosphere.

Liverpool overturned a 3-0 semi-final first-leg deficit from the Nou Camp to win 4-0 on Tuesday and reached their second successive Champions League final. Here is how Twitter reacted to the match…

But Barcelona remained in the driving seat in the tie as illustrated by how the club's Twitter page responded after Liverpool's early breakthrough.

But after Alisson made important saves from Lionel Messi and former Reds pair Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho, Liverpool seized command on the night through two strikes from substitute Georginio Wijnaldum in three second-half minutes.

At that stage Liverpool still needed another unanswered goal to progress to the Madrid showpiece and it was a moment of quick thinking from Trent Alexander-Arnold, with extra time beckoning, that helped Jurgen Klopp's side seal the tie.

In response to his own tweet he added: "Henderson and Milner are, to me, the symbol of this formidable, collective spirit."

Prince William was also quick to congratulate Liverpool on their "incredible result".
